When the market is slow and the phones aren’t ringing off the hook with people asking us to help them buy and/or sell, there are different ways for agents to be proactive and busy.  For instance, if we have a home listed on their street, we go door-to-door and speak directly with the neighbours, letting them know the price and features of the home.  A lot of times, the neighbours may know someone who may be interested in moving into their area.  


 

Another way is to pick up the phone themselves and call homeowners directly.  Before the National Do Not Call List came into effect, that was another thing that agents on my team did when they weren’t busy.  And that’s how one of the agents on my team met Myriam, who expressed genuine interest in selling her home.  Myriam and her husband Walter had already been considering a move to Collingwood and were intrigued by the opportunity.  Although they were about to leave on vacation, they assured my agent they would reconnect upon their return.


 

Consistent follow-up is a core value I emphasize with my team, and in this case, it proved crucial.  Our agent scheduled a call for when they returned from their vacation.  When he called, Myriam told him they are definitely moving and promised to call when ready to meet with agents.  A short time later Walter called, and we scheduled a time for me to drop by and provide them with a comprehensive and up-to-date home evaluation.    When the appointment to meet was made and also at the meeting, Walter and Myriam made sure I knew they were also meeting with other agents.
